The work series connects to the digital world, which is built on a binary system of 0 and 1. The original medium for saving data was punch cards. The perforated holes represent data through the presence or absence of holes, zeros and ones. In my prints, I start from this principle and use a common material in the art world: bubble wrap that has already served for my art transports before. I create punctual interventions through tactile work (crushing bubbles) and process the regular grid by creating accumulated voids. The materiality and sound that arises in this destructive work – crushing the bubbles – is also very pleasurable and many can relate to this. The presence and absence of the air in the bubbles becomes visible as binary traces in the prints.
The printing process itself, where the colored bubble wrap is printed on paper using the printing press, creates an unknown parameter in my planning of voids and filled bubbles. The printing press interacts with the material and randomly adds voids while the impression is being made which creates editions with a variable.
